How effective is medical Cannabis for chronic pain relief?

Medical Cannabis For Chronic Pain Relief

Jul 27, 2016

Approximately fifty-eight percent of Peace Naturals clients report using their medical Cannabis for chronic pain relief. Clients report their severe arthritis, back pain, fibromyalgia, migraines, neck pain, joint pain and muscle pain is reduced after they medicate with our medical Cannabis.

Many Canadians investigating Cannabis and thinking about using it for the first time are left wondering how effective is medical Cannabis for chronic pain relief and more importantly, how do they employ it as an adjunct therapy.

Anecdotally, Canadians suffering from chronic pain have discovered medical Cannabis does benefit them in reducing their pain levels. They’re employing Cannabis to make their lives a little better.

University of McGill researcher Dr. Mark Ware (who now sits on government’s task force on Cannabis legalization) completed a 2010 clinical trial involving 21 men and women suffering from chronic pain symptoms. Dr. Ware discovered Cannabis helps chronic pained people sleep and manage their chronic pain with as little as three doses a day.

Cannabis for the Management of Pain: Assessment of Safety Study

This small sample provides some scientific backing into the large volume of anecdotal evidence. After all, approximately 10 – 15 percent of Canadians with chronic pain report using medical Cannabis for symptom management. The numbers continue to grow as Canadians learn more about the benefits of Cannabis for chronic pain relief.

For the McGill study, Dr. Ware used three strengths of Cannabis and a placebo. The volume of THC per sample was 9.4% THC, 6% THC and 2.5% THC and a placebo containing no THC. Patients continued to use their prescription medication, but were rotated through the four samples randomly for a week.

Interestingly one aspect to the study study is that it showcases there is plenty more happening in medical Cannabis than just the volume of THC. Many people wrongly believe the strongest Cannabis has to be the best Cannabis for them.

One of the most common questions Peace Naturals Client Care Representatives receive is ‘what is our strongest Cannabis.’ We understand people are seeking chronic pain relief, but the percentage of THC in our medical Cannabis isn’t the best marker in determining what is the best medical Cannabis for pain relief.

Cannabis is helping our clients cope with their non-stop pain. It helps make their day more manageable by allowing them the freedom to reduce their chronic pain symptoms when they need to and it allows them to live more fulfilled lives.

Cannabinoids in the management of difficult to treat pain

How or when people use their medical Cannabis for pain relief is an individual choice and varies depending on the person seeking relief.

We have clients who use their medical Cannabis when they get home from their work day to help them unwind. Many medicate just before bed for a goodnight’s sleep, while other clients are employing Cannabis therapy throughout the day to manage their symptoms.

Adding medical Cannabis as an adjunct therapy isn’t challenging. Our Client Care Representatives suggest that clients who are new to Cannabis treatment start slow, and to start medicating when you have time to experience and gauge the effects.

One of the best sources for medical Cannabis and chronic pain management comes from our own clients. Read their Peaceful Inspirations about how they employ medical Cannabis for chronic pain relief.
