An evening with an inspirational group
Annual Scleroderma Fundraising Gala
The Peace Naturals Project were guests at the 10th Annual Scleroderma Fundraising Gala in Mississauga Ontario on Saturday April 2nd. The spectacular event was organized by a dedicated group of volunteers, many of them from Mississauga Scleroderma Support Group, which started this fab gala a decade ago to raise awareness and much needed research funds.
Scleroderma literally means hardening of the skin. The cause is unknown, but researchers believe the immune system is overactive in patients with scleroderma, resulting in the overproduction of collagen in the body. Scleroderma is often a progressive autoimmune disease, where the body’s own immune system attacks itself. The effects of this illness are widespread, with symptoms varying from patient-to-patient.
Scleroderma Society of Ontario has created a detailed and insightful Scleroderma Frequently Asked Question about the illness, which we encourage you to read.
For years, Canadians with scleroderma have successfully incorporated legal medicinal Cannabis therapy as an adjunct therapy. Peace Naturals Client Care Department has heard numerous firsthand accounts from our scleroderma clients on their experiences. From these personal experiences we’ve learned how our products have benefited them in managing their chronic illness.
Like many of our clients, scleroderma patients opt for medicinal Cannabis primarily as a tool for pain management. The disease is known for causing gastrointestinal issue and many clients report increasing their appetite as a secondary reason for choosing medicinal Cannabis therapy.
The exceptional gala meal included a lovely reception antipasto bar, for starters Caldo Verde Soup, and an entree of seared chicken breast stuffed with Ricotta Cheese and Spinach. A delicious selection of pastry desserts were provided by Caldese Bakery & Brazil Bakery.
Dance troupe it Factor Academy performed a dazzling array of dances, including a Sumba by Colin Petierre who plays Sasha on Family Channel’s Backstage and Rachel Riley who performs as Gabi in The Next Step J-Troupe.
Attendees participated in an entertaining live auction, which included a set of three original Star Wars trilogy autographed movie prints, two Raptor tickets in a private Air Canada Centre executive suite and 3pc Reclining Sofa Set.
The Peace Naturals project contributed to Scleroderma Society of Ontario silent auction by putting together a Peace Foods basket containing our organic All Natural Coconut Sugar, All Natural Premium White Chia, All Natural Heirloom Quinoa, and Delicious Hemp Hearts.
The Scleroderma Society of Ontario next big event is June 25 for their Walk or Run in the Park for Scleroderma; a public awareness event to help raise funds, awareness and education.
